A couple of things to get into today in our Website Whispers – including something on a fake dispute and some stuff on a change at a position . . .
Case in point as to why most players can’t stand us (the media)
A guy trying to stir it up today about nothing that has to do with the Jets-Seahawks game this Sunday.
Three years ago, Darrelle Revis and Richard Sherman verbally sparred with each other over who was the NFL’s best corner.
This was three years ago, and they don’t face each other head-to-head in this game, so it’s totally irrelevant to the game on Sunday.
But that didn’t stop somebody looking for website hits.
Revis interrupted a reporter in mid-question when Sherman’s name was mentioned in relation to their acrimonious history.
“We’re not going there,” Revis said.
The reporter tried again.
“We’re not going there,” Revis said.
Again, the reporter attempted to finish the question.
“We’re not going there,” Revis snapped.
Finally, Revis was asked his opinion of Sherman as a player.
“No opinion,” he said. “We’re not going there. We’re not going there. Seahawks’ offense” — meaning he only wanted to answer questions on Russell Wilson’s unit.
Good for Revis.
Meaningless bull crap that has nothing to do with the game on Sunday.
Antoher example of why the media’s approval ratings in the country are in toilet.
By the way, it looks like Revis is going to play, and the ankle injury isn’t that severe . . .
The Jets righted a wrong, and re-signed kick/punt returner Jeremy Ross today.
He did everything in his power to make this team this summer – he was terrific as both a returner and as a receiver. Got released due to politics and perhaps money.
Remember, Ross is in this sixth year, so he makes the sixth-year minimum. Minimum salaries go up every year based on the CBA. The man who beat him out, Jalin Marshall, makes the rookie minimum.
When you are paying Revis $17 million this year, and Mo Wilkerson, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brandon Marshall are making good coin, as are some others, you tend to lose the middle class, and try to save money at other positions. It’s well-documented the Jets don’t have a lot of caps space, so saving a couple hundred thousand on the returner comes in in handy.
Now the Jets need to bring Ross back because Marshall has a torn shoulder labrum.
Look, I’m not saying the Jets should have released Marshall. Not at all. I would have kept both of them.
Another example of the problem with keeping four quarterbacks, and also a fifth round offensive lineman who had a bad camp and should be on the practice squad.
Honestly, I’m not blaming anyone for the injury, but perhaps is should not come as a big surprise that Marshall got hurt. He’s not a big guy, and the rookie free agent was returning kicks, punts and was a getting a lot of work at receiver on offense. I personally thought he had too much on his plate.
And wouldn’t have had him return punts – kicks yes, punts no. As a punt catcher it was a roll of the dice all summer in practice.
With Ross, you don’t have to worry about him catching punts. He’s rock solid. He has so much experience in almost every stadium and every kind of weather. As a punt catcher, he’s a pro’s pro.
