Jets were too disorganized in this area, they need to change that . . .

The Jets are looking for a defensive coordinator.

They have interviewed a number of candidates.

Whoever they hire will have a lot of work to do.

The Jets’ defense was somewhat disorganized the past year, with blown coverages galore and too often bad gap discipline against the run.

The Jets need to hire a defensive coordinator who is not only good at X’s and O’s, but who is a master communicator, somebody who is going to put an end to the Jets looking like the Keystone Cops defensively.

So, whether it’s Wink Martindale, Jim O’Neil, or Jim Leonhard, whoever, they need to hire a cat who can run an organized defense, one that is devoid of players constantly being out of position, like we witnessed this past season.

They need someone to run their defense who is going to bring a more disciplined and organized approach.

Yes, some of the issues were personnel-related, and they need to add more defensive difference-makers this offseason, but they also need a coordinator who is going to get a unit to consistently play on the same page.

Too often this year,  it looked as if there were too many independent contractors out there, doing their own thing, and this led to a unit that often lacked cohesiveness.
