Jets rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper suffered an ankle injury early in the Jets’ opening-day win at Tennessee.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport announced Tuesday that Cooper is “week-to-week,” and an MRI revealed good news about the injury’s severity.
Rapoport also announced that there is “hope that he returns within the next four weeks.”
The On Time Agency represents Cooper.
The first catch of Cooper’s NFL career was quite spectacular. On the Jets’ first offensive series in Nashville, on a 3rd-and-9, Cooper took a shallow cross for 30 yards.
On this play, Cooper showed a big part of his skill set that made him a first-round target for the Jets, his unique run-after-the-catch ability.
After catching the ball, Cooper broke tackle attempts by safety Malik Hooker and defensive end Josh Martin in the open field.
If Cooper misses time, with another receiver, Tim Patrick, already on injured reserve, the Jets have two players they like on the practice squad they could call up to the regular roster: either Malik McClain or Jamaal Pritchett.
McClain is a big, physical receiver who is good on 50-50 balls, and Pritchett is an elusive slot receiver who is good at making people miss in the open field.
