NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport announced that Jets tight end Mason Taylor will not play at Detroit on Sunday due to a thumb injury.
Rapoport also announced that Taylor is “week-to-week” with the injury.
Milk and Honey Sports represents Taylor.
One of the real offensive head-scratchers for the Jets early in the season is how little they are using Taylor in the passing game.
Perhaps he has fallen behind rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq in the passing game pecking order at the position.
Maybe recency bias is at work here.
Sadiq was picked this year, and Taylor last year.
Taylor has two catches for -2 yards on the season.
Taylor has been very involved as a blocker and had some excellent blocks in the Jets’ Week One win over Tennessee.
Up 17-14, on third-and-7 with 5:28 left in the Jets’ loss to Green Bay, Geno Smith threw short left to WR Isaiah Williams for a gain of four. Taylor was open over the middle past the sticks. The Jets punted, and the Packers’ Skyy Moore returned the punt 63 yards, setting up a game-tying field goal. The pass probably should have gone to Taylor.
So when Taylor returns, you could argue that the player, who had 44 catches in 13 games (even with substandard QB play) in 2025, should be a little more involved in the Jets’ passing offense.
