The Jets added a lot of players in the off-season through free agency and the draft, but you could make the argument their most important addition might have been to their coaching staff – new offensive coordinator Frank Reich.
“I’m glad he’s here,” Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said on Thursday.
Reich should not only help the Jets’ offense improve from last year, but he could also help Glenn take the next step as a head coach after a challenging first season at the helm. Reich is a three-time head football coach (Indianapolis Colts, Carolina Panthers, and Stanford Cardinal).
“He’s a man of faith, been married for a number of years, has a beautiful family, and it is a luxury to have men like that in your life because we all need men that we can lean on,” Glenn said about Reich.
And Reich is also a fountain of football knowledge, who can be like a baseball bench coach for Glenn this season.
“We’ve always just talked football and just hearing what his philosophy is,” Glenn said.
Glenn said Reich has offered him many words of encouragement, like, “I know exactly who you are as a person, as a man, as a football coach; you just keep your process and keep going straight ahead and don’t let anything on the outside deter you from what you’re trying to do.”
And what he’s trying to do is have a much better season than his 3-14 initial campaign in Florham Park.
Having Reich call offensive plays, and as a sage sounding board, could certainly help him do that.
