Maybe they should have stayed with the Patriots-Jets game.
The Pats-Jets game was flexed out of Sunday night, and moved to the afternoon. In its place, the league put the Kansas City-Denver contest.
According to SportsBusiness Daily, NBC’s broadcast of the Chiefs vs. Broncos was 27 ratings points behind last year’s Week 12 Sunday night game between the Broncos and Patriots. That is obviously a huge decline.
Maybe the league overthought this one. While the Jets don’t have a great record, the Jets and Pats have a huge rivalry, and the New York and New England markets are bigger markets than Denver and Kansas City.
And the Pats-Jets game turned into a terrific contest that went down to the wire. The Chiefs-Broncos game turned into a good game, but the first half was kind of boring.
You could make the argument the league should have kept the Pats-Jets game in prime time.
