Mekhi Becton might be in the best shape of his life. What was the key to his huge transformation?
The 6-7 offensive tackle, who was near 400 pounds at one point during his first three years with the Jets, is now reportedly around 350 pounds.
What allowed him to finally make the conditioning breakthrough that many were clamoring for?
“The team I had around me wasn’t the right team for me,” Becton told newyorkjets.com. “So I had to change the seats at my metaphorical table. I revamped everything, got a new trainer, got a new agent, got a new everything. So that was the change that helped me out a lot.”
The changes started while on injured reserve with a knee injury suffered in the Jets’ 2022 training camp.
“I was actually starting to make these changes toward the end of last season,” Becton said.
He made a lot of changes to his diet and training regiment, including a new exercise that might surprise some people
“I started to swim this off-season,” Becton said. “That helped me out a lot as well.”
Becton feels great physically and has high hopes for this season.
“I feel like this is my year,” Becton said. “I feel like 2023 is the year of greatness.”
