East Rutherford – Albert Einstein once said, “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
The Jets’ punt coverage has been anemic all season.
And yesterday, that unit almost lost them the game. The Giants’ Dwayne Harris returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown.
Almost every week there is a bad play by the Jets’ punt coverage unit.
I’m sorry, I refuse to blame Jets special teams coach Bobby April for this. The man has coached special teams in the NFL for 25 years. He knows what you need to do to cover punts.
The problem here are the players being used – some bigger linebackers who aren’t great in space or changing directions, a rookie WR not making many tackles, a young gunner who needs some work (and is injured), and so forth.
The Jets need to make some changes here. Why has LB Josh Martin signed two weeks ago and made inactive the last two games? He was probably the Kansas City Chiefs’ best special team’s player last year. Get him on the field.
Changes are needed.
The Jets need to listen to Albert Einstein.
