Cortland – On Friday, the Jets signed running back Micheal Smith, a former Utah State running back, who was a seventh round pick of Tampa Bay in 2012.
Smith has rare speed for a running back, running a 4.33 forty at his Utah State Pro Day two years ago.
“They (talk about) my speed,” Smith said to TampaBay.com two years ago. “Yeah, I’m fast, but I feel like my mental toughness (is greater).”
Aside from his running skills, Smith is also a good receiver out the backfield, and a talented kick returner.
He finished his college career on a strong note, rushing for 157 yards against Ohio, en route to winning MVP honors in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
While he’s a little undersized from a height standpoint (5-8 1/8), he’s not a small back, with a thick 208-pound frame, which helps him run through a lot of arm tackles.
