Mobile, AL – It’s time for more news and notes and Whispers from Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama, home of the Senior Bowl . . .
The Jets might be in the market for a future left tackle and a kid who they might be able to get, and not have to pick him in the first round, is Texas Tech’s Le’Raven Clark.
He really caught my eye today.
Clark (6-6, 313) is really light on his feet, has long arms arm and a great motor. I really like this guy.
He could be a second or third round possibility . . .
Saw former Jets center Kevin Mawae today here in Mobile. He’s looking to get into coaching, and this is a good place to hob knob.
The Senior Bowl scene, whether you are at Ladd-Peebles Stadium or at the hotel lobby at the Renaissance, you have former players, and out of work scouts and coaches trying to land their next gig . . .
While people think that the Jets are loaded at cornerback, but they aren’t as loaded as people might think. They need to draft another one.
A cornerback who has really flashed this week is Minnesota’s Eric Murray.
He had a great PD in the end zone on a fade route today.
Ohio State receiver Braxton Miller was asked if a cornerback has caught his eye this week and he said Murray.
He’s a guy the Jets could get after the first round . . .
There was a story this week about the Jets showing a lot of interest in Rutgers WR Leonte Carroo.
Here is the tweet and I’m not going to name the writer because it’s not important – “Rutgers wide receiver Leonte Carroo drew the most interest from Patriots, Ravens, Seahawks, Jets, Giants, Jaguars, Colts, 49ers, Buccaneers.”
It’s best to ignore these kind of stories.
Doing due diligence doesn’t always translate to interest.
These teams scout thousands of players. They do extensive reports on hundreds of players.
The Jets are just doing their homework on Carroo. That is it.
Just because an agent leaks to a writer a bunch of teams are interested, it doesn’t mean anything.
Now I wrote a blog the other day that saying two Jets scouts were interviewing Penn State’s Carl Nassib.
Now that doesn’t mean the Jets want to pick him. It’s that they are doing their due diligence.
So these “interest” stories are much to do about nothing . . .
Speaking of Nassib, I was wondering what his best position would be in a 3-4 defense.
He’s listed at 6-6, 270, which is a little big for 3-4 outside linebacker, and a little small for 3-4 defensive end.
Well I went up to him after practice today to clear this up.
And he told me a 3-4 end, and he told me could put on 20 pounds to do it. He’s very lean right now.
With his motor, strength and passing for football, I think Nassib could be a superb 3-4 end
He could be a second round consideration, especially with the possibility of a Sheldon Richardson suspension and Mo Wilkerson coming off a broken leg and with an uncertain contract situation.
