More insight from a reporter plugged into the thinking of Jets ownership . . .

On December 30, 2025, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported on the SI website that the Jets intended to bring back Aaron Glenn as their coach.

“Here’s the reality of the Jets’ situation: There has been no discussion at the upper reaches of the organization about moving on from Aaron Glenn after one year,” Breer wrote.

On his podcast on January 1, 2026, he offered more insight into what the thinking is behind the decision to retain Glenn. Breer has consistently been one of the more plugged-in reporters on the thinking of Jets ownership.

“They had a core of players that that group inherited from the previous regime and that core was seen by ownership as a relatively strong core, one that you can you can win with pretty quickly and ownership green-lighted the trades of Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner and basically deconstructed some of what was already built there, and I don’t think you are doing that, if you aren’t planning on going forward with this long-term vision that (GM Darren) Mougey and Glenn have for the team,” Breer said on his podcast.

Williams was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, and DT Mazi Smith

Gardner was traded to the Indianapolis Colts for two first-round picks, one in 2026 and one in 2027, and WR Adonai Mitchell.

The Jets were 1-7 when these two players from “a relatively strong core, one that you can win with pretty quickly” were traded.
