National analyst baffled by this Jets decision . . .

Former NFL QB Chris Simms, now with NBC Sports, is confused by the Jets’ decision to name rookie Cade Klubnik their #2 QB.

‘Nice guy, I’m sure,” Simms said about Klubnik on Pro Football Talk Live. “No way, not realistic to think he can have success in the regular season. It wasn’t that impressive in the preseason. It was a bunch of preseason crap. It really was. It just manipulated, oh, we got a completion because they’re playing the same coverage every play. You know, oh, here’s a shallow cross – that [expletive] ain’t gonna be open in the regular season.”

Simms feels that perhaps how much the Jets’ decision-makers like the player personally is affecting their thinking.

‘Sometimes, when you like a guy too much for reasons other than football, and you get into stuff like that, you get biased, and you lose what you’re seeing, and I think they’re taking a tremendous risk here by having him as their backup,” Simms said.

Simms believes the Jets’ new offensive coordinator, Frank Reich, is enamored of the rookie QB.

“The sense I get is that Frank Reich has a love affair with Cade Klubnick,” Simms said. “That’s all I can say, you know? Something personally in their life where they’ve meshed together that way and he likes it, but damn, I just, that is risky, risky. It really is.”
