Of course, being a good football man should be the #1 strength of the next GM.
And being a strong leader is 1A.
But 1C should be the ability to deal with a ferocious New York media.
They will chew you up, and spit you out, if you don’t know how to handle them.
Quite honestly, the Jets last two GM’s weren’t great with the media, and that hurt them.
I hate that the media is a factor when it comes to hiring a GM, but it is. It should be all about football, but in this market, unfortunately, you can’t ignore the media factor.
The Jets need to hire a strong communicator, not only in the building, but also with the press.
Somebody who can deal with Mike Francesa, Gary Myers, Stephen A. Smith, and so forth, without cowering.
Don’t hire a wallflower.
