Network analyst: ‘Not how you want to finish the off-season’

Brian “Baldy” Baldinger of the NFL Network, and various other outlets, feels Aaron Rodgers’ absence from the Jets’ two-day mandatory minicamp this week put the head coach in a “tough spot.”

Rodgers’ absence was “unexcused” Jets coach Robert Saleh said in Tuesday’s press conference to start the camp.

“It put the head coach Robert Saleh in a difficult spot,” Baldinger said on his podcast (‘The Best Football Show’). “You are there and you want to want to kind of end on a good note. You want to go into the six weeks before [training camp] starts on a high. You’ve had a good off-season, a lot of new players, you have implemented [new stuff] and you have to basically start your press conference that your quarterback isn’t here.

“Robert Saleh was in a tough spot in a mandatory two-day minicamp, not even a three-day – just two days – they are just going Tuesday and Wednesday this week. They are not even going Thursday. So a two-day mandatory minicamp and two of the guys they are really counting on (Rodgers and defensive end Haason Reddick) are not there.”

Where is Rodgers?

Well, FS1’s Colin Cowherd reported on June 12: “Aaron’s on vacation, and it’s overseas.”

We can’t confirm that, but wherever he is, Baldinger feels Rodgers (and Reddick) missing the mandatory camp “is not how you want to finish the off-season, you just don’t.”
