One of the Jets’ top free agent signings after the draft was Fresno State safety Dean Clark.
While he’s had a somewhat quiet camp due to limited reps, his terrific instincts were on full display today on one of the better defensive plays of Tuesday’s Jets training camp practice.
On a screen pass to Malachi Corley, Clark read the play perfectly and was there to stop the receiver right after he caught the ball.
While there was no tackling today, this play likely would have gone for a loss based on Clark snuffing out the screen as it was unfolding.
A transfer from Kent State, he put together two nice seasons out west in Fresno, including two double-digit tackle games last year for the Bulldogs – a career-high 11 tackles at New Mexico (Sept. 21) and 10 tackles at UCLA (Nov. 30). A prolific tackler, he had 116 tackles at Kent State in 2021.
A standout student who earned his undergraduate degree in business administration from Kent State and earned his MBA at Fresno State, he should pick up the Jets playbook fast. From the great football town of Massillon, Ohio, don’t count out this overachiever, who is a big-time hitter and very instinctive.
