So far, so good for Joe Tippmann at right guard.
With the season-ending injury to Alijah Vera-Tucker, the Jets moved Tippmann from center to right guard, and plugged in Josh Myers at center.
In the Jets’ loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday, Tippmann did some good things at this new position.
Here are some examples:
On the Jets’ first rushing attempt of the game, Breece Hall went for 18 yards, with Tippmann and Myers helping open up a big hole up the middle.
On a third-and-one on the first series, Fields ran behind Tippmann for five yards.
On an 8-yard TD run by Braelon Allen in the second quarter up the middle, one of the key blocks on the play was Tippmann pulling to the second level and neutralizing his old Wisconsin teammate, Steelers defensive tackle Keeanu Benton.
In the third quarter, Justin Fields had a two-yard TD run behind the right side of his line, Tippmann and right tackle Armand Membou.
And the pass protection for Fields was pretty good all game, with the QB being sacked just once, and obviously, Tippmann was a big part of that.
So, not a bad first outing for Tippmann at his new position.
