Noted film guru – ‘These are some JV linebacker drops’

Former NFL QB J.T. O’Sullivan has a popular YouTube Channel called “The QB School.”

On his channel, he broke down Trevor Lawrence’s six-touchdown performance against the Jets. Lawrence threw five touchdowns and ran for another.

While O’Sullivan feels Lawrence played a great game, he also feels that too often the Jets’ coverage made it too easy.

Talking about the Jags’ first two TD drives, he said, “This is essentially routes on air from a defensive perspective. This is too easy from a quarterback’s perspective. Get into whatever you want. Five-step, gun. Three-step, hitch. Free access. Throw it. He makes it look easy because it is easy. Way too much space on the backend by the Jets.”

One issue O’Sullivan saw repeatedly was linebackers biting on play-action and leaving a big hole in back on them, and in front of the safeties.

“There is some bad ball going on out there as far as the depth of some of these coverages,” O’Sullivan said in the video. “These are some JV linebacker drops, and they are making things too easy down the field. If the second level of the defense drops (aren’t deep enough), this is just throwing routes on air to a professional quarterback.

“Would not want to be in the Jets film session this week – holy moly.”

So new Jets defensive coordinator Chris Harris and his staff had a lot of work to do this week.

We will see on Sunday if they can fix the coverage issues we saw in EverBank Stadium.
