Another reason it’s smart to start this QB now

You want to know a good reason to start Trevor Siemian this week, and maybe beyond.

Simple.

When Aaron Rodgers returns next season, the Jets need a better backup QB plan than they had this year.

This was supposed to be kind of a redshirt year for Zach Wilson to help fix his mechanics and footwork. So to have him one snap away from playing, especially early in the season, probably wasn’t the best plan.

So with Rodgers, now 40, the Jets likely starter next year, and coming off a torn Achilles, they need a veteran backup in place, who can win games for them.

So why not use some games down the stretch, to essentially audition Siemian for the 2024 backup job?

If he does well, lock him up for next year, and give yourself a better backup plan, with a player who was 13-11 as a starter in Denver.
