*Q: How do you feel about getting drafted by the Jets?
Jets fifth-round pick, CB Qwan’tez Stiggers: It was almost surreal for me. I came up to the Jets on a top-30 Visit. Me and Coach TO (Tony Oden) built a great relationship. I just feel like home, honestly. I might not have gone in the round I wanted to go in, but at the end of the day, I love that the Jets selected me. I’m going to make [the other teams] pay. They’re going to have to pay all year.
Q: What was your experience like playing in Canada?
Stiggers: Shoutout to the Toronto Argonauts. I feel like anybody that goes to the Toronto Argonauts is going to be developed into a good player, a great person on and off the field. Showing up there, I was just looking for an opportunity, but it ended up being more than an opportunity. It ended up being a life changing year for me where I could chase my dreams to go to the NFL. I will always have so much love for the Argo’s (Argonauts) for bringing me in and making me the person that I am.
Q: After all you have been through in your life, how are you doing mentally and spiritually right now?
Stiggers: Mentally, I’m great. Spiritually, I’m great. I’m actually going to get saved Sunday. Actually, tomorrow, I’m getting saved tomorrow. So, I’m showing up to camp fresh. Overall, I’m just really excited. I just got my name called to the NFL, to the New York Jets, so it’s going to be a blast. I’m going to put on a show.
Q: What is your relationship like with Jets cornerback coach Tony Oden?
Stiggers: The funny thing about Tony Oden, he called me like a couple days [ago] I forget when he called me. But he called me, he said, ‘Hello, this is the IRS.’ I’m like, ‘IRS?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, this is the IRS, we’re trying to find out, did you do your Canadian taxes?’ I’m like, ‘What?’ And he’s like, ‘No, I’m just playing, this is Coach TO from the Jets.’ So, I was like, ‘Ok, cool, we’re good.’
He came down for a private workout. He actually sent me a picture of me getting drafted to the Jets, so everything came in a full circle. I just want to give all glory to God and thank Him.
