Cortland – While the first preseason game doesn’t mean that much in the big picture, it’s exciting for coaches and fans, because they get to see their team in game action, for the first time, in quite some time.
“I’m excited about it just like, shoot, no different than our fans, I know our fans are going to be excited about it,” said Jets coach Rex Ryan. “Let’s see where this team is at. Let’s see how (Eric) Decker fits in, let’s see how this defense looks. So, I’m excited to watch us play against somebody else.”
Ryan is also excited to see where quarterback Geno Smith is at, now that he’s got such a terrific grasp of the team’s offensive playbook.
“I know he’ll have the command out of him, but, let’s have some production, I think we will,” Ryan said.
In other words, a trip to the end zone or two, something we didn’t see in the scrimmage.
