Cortland – When picking the Jets’ starting quarterback, Rex Ryan says he will not consider what has happened in the past.
It will be all about what Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith do this summer, in practice and preseason games, not what Sanchez and the Jets did in 2009 and 2010.
“You’re in a different system, we’ll see how [Mark Sanchez] is in this system, how things work out in this system,” Rex Ryan said. “So I am in there with an open mind. Sure, I know what’s happened in the past, but if you really are focused in the past, am I supposed to go back one season or how far am I supposed to go back? So to me I’d rather focus on the present and what’s in front of us to do the evaluating. We’ll see how it shakes out.
“I know about the goods and the bads. There (have) been great moments, (there have) been bad moments. We’ll start right now.”
And that is the way it should be.
It’s time to stop living in the past.
