Florham Park – Aaron Rodgers made some news with his comments about what ideal NFL ownership looks like.
“I think it’s an important part of ownership to hire the guys, set the vision, and support them when the outside world is trying to tear them down,” Rodgers said on Wednesday.
That certainly sounds like the best approach, and Woody Johnson must take this approach with whomever the next GM and head coach are if they want success moving forward. There is no doubt about it.
However, some would argue that theory might not 100 percent apply to a head coach in his fourth year with a 20-36 record and a GM in his sixth year with a 30-64 record. Some might argue blind loyalty goes out the window to a degree at that point.
But moving forward, with the next hires, Jets ownership must absolutely, positively heed Rodgers’ sage advice.
Hire somebody like Mike Vrabel, throw him the car keys, and get out of the way.
