There is a perception that Aaron Rodgers’ activity off the field, like appearing on podcasts talking about myriad topics outside of football, or him considering a chance to be RFK Jr.’s VP on an independent ticket, are distractions to the Jets.
But are they?
“The idea of distractions is a way bigger topic outside of the building than it is inside,” Rodgers told host Adam Schein on SiriusXM Radio today. “I mean, nobody’s talked to me about any of these things being distractions.”
You might think this is just Rodgers defending himself from the outside perception that he is distracting the locker room, but being around the team, you don’t get the sense that the players are spending much time focusing on Rodgers’ off-the-field activities.
“Nobody’s worried about any distraction,” Rodgers said. “Nobody even said anything about the whole VP stuff during the entire thing. It wasn’t even a topic of conversation. No worries, no nothing. So the idea of being a lot of distraction is an outside-the-locker room, outside-of-the-facility conversation, not inside.”
You know what was the biggest distraction to the team last year: Rodgers hurting his Achilles tendon four plays into the season, ending his first campaign with Gang Green.
Rodgers talking about Anthony Fauci or Jeffrey Epstein or Ayahuasca on podcasts doesn’t impact the locker room.
If Rodgers comes back and plays like he is capable of, and the Jets make the playoffs, he can talk about UFOs and the Southern border all he wants, nobody’s going to care.
