Chicago – With a playoff spot clinched, Rex Ryan is considering giving Mark Sanchez (shoulder) a respite in Week 17.
“This could be one of those things where we rest him,” Ryan said after the game. “On the sideline, he kept trying to stay warmed up because I think there was some tightness.”
Sanchez has torn cartilage in his throwing shoulder, according Manish Mehta. Perhaps some rest could help the healing process.
But we are talking about a quarterback who has thrown one touchdown pass in the last four games (to Santonio Holmes in Chicago), so he needs the work. Every rep is a teachable moment for him.
Obviously, you don’t want him to hurt his shoulder further next week.
But he also needs the work.
Tough call.
