Rex Ryan and John Idzik held a joint press conference today.
It has held on a conference call.
This was a smart move by the team’s brass.
Why am I praising a run-of-the-mill press conference? They happen all time.
Because they held it together.
There has been a lot of chatter recently, claiming the coach is upset with the GM over him not reeling in certain free agents.
One report quoted a friend of Ryan’s saying he was “pissed” about the team not signing cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (who might be headed to Canton, based on what has been written about him recently). After this report, the theory that Rex is angry at the GM turned into a wildfire, with various websites and cable channels pumping this angle ad infinitum.
So for the Jets to have Ryan and Idzik hold a joint presser today, to quash this angle, was a good strategy, especially with the league meetings coming up on Sunday (there is always a ton of media there).
