I think the Jets need to take their time with the decision.
Buffalo’s Doug Marrone has a good idea. He said he will make a decision on the Buffalo starting QB 10 days before the opener.
The Jets should go with a similar timetable, because so far, it’s been pretty even.
We really need to see Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith in preseason games to learn more about them in Marty Mornhinweg’s offense. There are too many throws in practice where the completion occurs after a play in a game would be over, since there are no sacks in training camp.
Smith does have a very good arm, and seems to be more accurate than Sanchez.
Sanchez seems to know the offense better, and is in much better condition than Smith, who surprisingly reported in bad shape.
I know we live in an instant gratification society where people want decisions made yesterday, but the Jets need to take their time with this one.
There should be no rush.
And the decision should be based on which quarterback gives the Jets the best chance to win, not the best chance to spin.
Don’t make a political decision, or a ticket decision, make a sound football decision.
