Something Jets need to fix during bye week and perhaps at trade deadline . . .

The Jets entered their bye week, coming off an impressive win over the Cincinnati Bengals, their first of the season, but they definitely have some things to fix during their week off.

Like their interior run defense. Here are examples of some issues in that area from their win over the Bengals:

*On the Bengals’ second series, on third-and-two at the 11-yard line, tailback Samaje Perine shot up the middle for 10 yards to the 1-yard line. Their two defensive tackles were locked up on this play, and a linebacker missed a tackle.

*Perine had a 32-yard TD run in the third quarter, both their defensive tackles were locked up, and one of their linebacker took a bad angle, and the runner burst up the middle.

*In the fourth quarter, on a 21-yard gain up the middle by tailback Chase Brown, both defensive tackles were locked up, opening a big hole.

After the Brown run, CBS play-by-play guy Spero Dedas said, “Bengals carving up the Jets run defense at the moment.”

Some will argue the Jets’ run defense issue in Cincinnati was related to them playing a light box to provide extra coverage on Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. However, their run defense also struggled in recent games against Carolina and Dallas, and not sure if that was related to light boxes.

So run defense, especially on the interior coming off the Bengals game, is something that needs to be a focus for Gang Green during the bye week, and with the trade deadline approaching.
