First of all, we all need to understand . . .
. . . that Woody Johnson isn’t running the Jets, his brother Christopher is.
So if you are offended by the Woody Johnson story reported by CNN, why would you hold that against Christopher, who has a different worldview than his bother?
Christopher Johnson is running the Jets right now, not Woody. And Christopher is also a co-owner. The team was purchased owned by Woody, Christopher and their late mother in 2000.
Woody Johnson is in hot water for a few things he reportedly said while serving his current role as United States Ambassador to Great Britain.
One comment causing perhaps the biggest stir is him reportedly saying, “The absence of black fathers in the home was a real challenge.”
A CNN State Department source claimed to be “deeply troubled” and “stunned” by the comment. African-American sports columnist Jason Whitlock doesn’t understand why.
“I’m ‘deeply troubled’ that a State Department official was ‘stunned’ by Johnson’s comment on the importance of black fathers,” wrote Whitlock. “I don’t know a single black person unconcerned with the general state of the black family. Seventy-five percent of black children are born to unwed mothers and raised in homes with an absent father.
Whitlock continued: “Should Roger Goodell and the NFL take action against Woody Johnson, banish him from their ranks, punish him for insensitivity? Hell no. And especially not for racism. Johnson’s concern about black fatherhood makes me view him as a revolutionary ally more than a foe.”
The headline of Whitlock’s article was entitled: “Twitter newspeak defines Woody Johnson’s revolutionary truth as system racism.”
A couple of noted doctors wrote a book in 2018 called: “The Boy Crisis.”
It was written by Dr. Warren Farrell and Dr. John Gray. You might remember Gray from his best seller – “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.” Farrell is a former board member of NOW – The National Organization of Women.
They uncovered some eye-opening data about boys who grow up without a father, and this isn’t race-specific.
“Since Columbine, about 90 percent of the mass shooters are not just boys, but they’re dad-deprived boys.” said Farrell. “And the same is true with ISIS recruiting: More than 90 percent of the ISIS recruits are dad-deprived.
“Ninety-three percent of our prisoners are male, but of those 93 percent males, more than 90 percent of them are dad-deprived males.”
Talk show host Jason Mattera recently posted on social media: “The single most impacting way to improve all communities, reduce poverty, lower crime, and increase educational advancement is to restore the family. Children, regardless of race, face the most socio-economic obstacles when their father is absent.”
The late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, a Democrat from New York, who as also a sociologist, had a lot to say on this issue while in office. He wrote a study called, “The Moynihan Report” in 1965 about the destruction of the nuclear family and how would hinder progress.
Look, I don’t want to make this into a political blog, but decided to do a little research on this controversial issue.
You can decide what you think of Woody’s theory that is causing a stir, and make up your own mind.
But remember, Woody Johnson isn’t running the Jets, his brother Christopher is now, and will be for the foreseeable future.
Christopher is totally different than his brother. They are polar opposites.
If you are offended by Woody’s comments, it might be unfair to blame his brother for them.
And once again – his brother, Christopher, is running the Jets!
I repeated that several times for emphasis.
