No idea what he said or didn’t say.
These are allegations right now from CNN.
Talking about a CNN report about alleged comments made by Woody Johnson that some reportedly considered sexist and racist.
Plus these are just allegations right now.
The NFL released a statement to reporters regarding the allegations saying: “We are aware of the report and would refer you to the State Department.”
Woody Johnson denied the allegations in a statement issued by the team: “I have followed the ethical rules and requirements of my office at all times. These false claims of insensitive remarks about race and gender are totally inconsistent with my longstanding record and values.”
But even though these are just allegations at this point, Jets disgruntled safety Jamal Adams took to social media to provide commentary on one of the Jets’ owner – TWICE.
“Right is right. Wrong is wrong! If you don’t think this is wrong, you’re part of the problem not the solution,” tweeted Adams who would like to be traded.
“We need the right people at the top. Wrong is wrong.” – Adams also tweeted.
Look, I’m not here to defend Woody Johnson. Let’s see how the investigation turns out. But what does Adams mean by: “We need the right people at the top?”
Woody Johnson isn’t at the top. Christopher Johnson is at the top, and isn’t leaving anytime soon. I will get back to this shortly when I make the main point of this post.
Also, when you say: “Right is right, wrong is wrong,” does that also apply to holding out with two years left on your deal (with the fifth-year option exercised)?
Clearly this is another attempt by Adams to get traded, and they should probably oblige at this point, if they can get good value in return. One of the things about championship quality teams is everybody is “all-in.” That is what helped the U.S. Hockey team overcome all the odds to win the gold medal. Same with the great Bill Walsh 49ers and the Bill Belichick Patriots. Having the players “all-in” is a big part of a strong football culture. Adams clearly isn’t “all-in” with being a Jet at this point.
But let me get to my main point here: The Jets need Christopher Johnson to be their main owner – now and moving forward – and this was the case before the allegations.
Christopher connects better with the Jets’ staff and players. It’s hard to explain unless you are around the team, but when you see Woody and Christopher interacting with players, coaches and staff, Christopher connects a little better. It is what it is.
Look how he handled the first anthem kneeling issue when Colin Kaepernick started that movement. He brought the team together, and they worked out a compromise, with everybody locking arms on the sidelines, and Christopher joined them.
Also, Joe Douglas was hired by Christopher. He loves working with Christopher, and one of the reasons is that Christopher doesn’t mettle. Christopher lets Douglas do his thing. Woody was more hands on with player personnel, like with the second Darrelle Revis deal which was clearly a mistake, along with the Tim Tebow and Brett Favre trades. He was also involved with trading up in the draft to pick Mark Sanchez.
So if Woody came back to run the team, and started to mettle, this wouldn’t fly with Big Joe, and who knows how he would react.
So we will see what the State Department announces.
But anyway you slice it, even if Woody stops being the ambassador to Great Britain, either due to Donald Trump losing the election, or due to a change being made by the White House, the Jets do need Christopher to remain in his current position.
That is, of course, unless they sell the team.
Then, or course, neither Johnson brother would by running the Jets.
