The impact of the Jermaine Cunningham injury . . .

OLB Jermaine Cunningham suffered a torn Achilles tendon in the Jets’ scrimmage on Saturday. The injury announcement was made by the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

This is unfortunate news for Cunningham, and hopefully he can come back from this injury in 2015.

However, this injury has little or no impact on the Jets.

Cunningham was a major longshot to make the team.

He was having a very quiet camp.

Cunningham looks the part of a 3-4 outside linebacker at 6-3, 255, but throughout the summer, he’s had issues shedding blocks as a pass rusher.

With Calvin Pace, Jason Babin, Quinton Coples, Garrett McIntyre, the likely return of Antwan Barnes and the arrow pointing up on Troy Davis, there wasn’t a spot for Cunningham. And I didn’t even list Jets draft pick OLB’s IK Enemkpali and Trevor Reilly, who have both shown flashes this summer.
