This player is just what doctor ordered for Jets new QB . . .

Considering the Jets decided to go with Justin Fields as their quarterback, the importance of the tight end position went up a notch.
So the Jets’ selection of LSU’s Mason Taylor in the second round of the 2025 draft could be huge for Gang Green’s offense this season.
You see, while Fields is a phenomenal athlete, who can make big plays with both his arm and his legs, like a lot of young quarterbacks, he needs some work on going through progressions, so you often see with QBs like this, the tight end position is of enormous importance. In Chicago, Fields loved throwing to 6-6 tight end Cole Kmet

Let’s say the first read is not open, it’s often the tight end sneaking off the line after blocking for a second that becomes a great safety valve on short to intermediate throws. The tight end provides a large, easy-to-see target in the quarterback’s wheelhouse. Aside from running run-pass options and bootlegs to take advantage of Fields’ world-class speed, having a big, athletic tight end who can slip off the line and get open quickly underneath could be manna from heaven for the developing signal-caller.
