In their recent game against the New York Jets, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had three offensive line starters out, and two other starters playing out of position, and the Jets finished with one sack.
In their recent game against the New York Jets, the Dallas Cowboys had four offensive line starters out, and the Jets finished with one sack, and it wasn’t really a sack, it was just a guy touching a sliding Dak Prescott.
So why is the Jets’ pass rush so anemic, even against teams with ravaged offensive lines?
Jets coach Aaron Glenn explained what the issue is during his Monday press conference:
“The thing is, listen, the slide is going to Quinnen (Williams) dang near every time and our other guys have to win their one-on-ones,” Glenn said. “That is something that I talked to a number of guys about last night, and they understand that. In this day and age, you see a lot of 12 personnel, and they’re blocking, they’re keeping everybody in, and that’s one of the reasons why we have issues.”
Some of it could also be player personnel related, with perhaps some guys not having the requisite skill set to get off blocks with regularity. That is quite possible.
The Jets substandard pass rush against the decimated lines of Tampa Bay and Dallas was quite shocking.
