There is really only way to view this . . .

Anybody critical of the Jets’ hiring of Frank Reich as offensive coordinator is probably somebody who doesn’t like to give this organization credit for anything.

Where is the downside to this hire?

He’s a top-shelf offensive mind who will run an organized offense. He will help the Jets a great deal strategically, help their ability to play better “chess on grass” than they did last year.

He’s a great person, universally liked in the world of football, who will help bring stability and calm to a team coming off a very challenging season.

He’s been a head coach at three places – Indianapolis, Carolina, and Stanford, so he will be a great sounding board for Aaron Glenn, who is still getting comfortable in his head-coaching skin. He could be like Don Zimmer was for Joe Torre with the New York Yankees.

Aaron Glenn seems to have hit this hire out of the park.

“Frank has a rare combination of experience, creativity, and calm under pressure,” Glenn said. “He’s lived this game from every angle — as a quarterback in this league and as a coach who’s led offenses at the highest level. He is unique in his ability to see the game for what it is right now and adapt when appropriate. Frank understands offense and how to utilize the strengths of players.”

This isn’t just coach speak.

While time will tell if this works out, on paper, it’s hard to find almost anything negative about this move.
