Not the time of year for this stuff at 1 Jets Drive . . .

Media training camp QB stats are foolish.

Training camp is for learning the playbook, working on fundamentals, experimenting and developing chemistry.

It’s not for stats.

That’s for the games.

And so many training camp completions or incompletions can be devoid of context.

You can’t touch the QB in camp, so often plays go beyond what they might in a real game, because even if a pass rusher breaks through and pressures the QB, the defender has to pull up, and the QB will continue after what might have been a sack, and sometimes completes a pass. Some of these completions, or even incompletions, are unrealistic on plays that might have been a QB sack or throwaway in a real game.

Also, camp is like a lab for the QB, and he’s testing many things out, seeing where guys like the ball placed on certain routes, like fades, so he’s willing to throw an incompletion in camp while experimenting, so when the real games start, he gets the placement just right.

And there were no officials out there today. Rodgers had an incredible deep pass to Garrett Wilson (not the deep completion early in practice, but another one), that was incomplete, but a cornerback would have likely been called for pass interference in a real game. He grabbed Wilson. Wilson was doing the PI gesture after the play, pretending to throw a flag.

Training camp QB stats have always been dumb and lacking context.

Viewer discretion is advised.
