Florham Park – It’s pretty clear the Jets are going to draft a quarterback high in next year’s draft.
If the Jets want to avoid throwing that rookie to the wolves immediately in Week 1 next year, re-signing QB Tyrod Taylor, who will start for them this week in Baltimore, would make sense.
He would not only be an ideal bridge QB until the kid is ready, but the selfless Taylor would be a great mentor for the youngster, whoever that might be.
There is a lot of talk that maybe Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza would be a good fit for the Jets. Perhaps Alabama’s Ty Simpson.
But whoever that QB might be, who better to serve as the “hold-the-fort” QB as Bill Parcells used to call it, than Taylor.
Maybe since the Jets started some recent rookie first-round quarterbacks, like Sam Darnold and Zach Wilson, right out of the gate, when they could have benefited from sitting for a bit, maybe this time around, they will take it a little slower with the prospect.
