Will Geno Smith be held to the same high standards that Mike Vick was? Vick was benched after one bad game.
I don’t want to make myself the story, but I really went after Rex Ryan today at his press conference.
I reached a boiling point.
After months of taking the high road, I could not take it anymore.
The double-talk, the hypocrisy, the bull they are trying to sell to us, it doesn’t make a lot of sense.
I will tell you one scenario that really bothered me.
After the San Diego game, an awful performance by Geno Smith that put a capstone on a week where he cursed out a fan, and was late for a meeting, Rex Ryan came out right after that game and said, “Geno is a starter next week.”
And then this week, after the Buffalo game, he said he needed to think about it for a few days.
I hate double-standards. Hate them.
How on earth did he not have to think about whether Geno would start the next game following that horrid San Diego week, but after Mike Vick has one bad start, he needs to think about it for a few days.
Ridiculous.
There is likely no other team in football that would have anointed Geno the starter immediately after that San Diego game.
That is no way to run a program. The kid at least needed to think about his awful week, make him sweat it out a little, make him think.
I asked Ryan today if Geno Smith will have a little more leeway as the starter than Mike Vick, or will he be benched after one bad start?
Ryan wouldn’t answer the question – he was dancing around, so I jumped in, and Bruce Speight said, “Let him finish.”
I said “he’s not answer the question.”
John Connor is bad on the wedge. He’s too stiff athletically, and special team’s kamikaze’s run down field, and with one little move they are by him. Check out the opening kickoff against Buffalo. Marcus Easley ran right around him and stopped Percy Harvin on the 12. It was an awful way to start the game. Connor also had another missed block later on.
Connor is a block of granite, with little agility, and struggles changes direction.
He needs to be replaced on the wedge. He’s hurting the kick return team.
I asked Rex about this, and said Connor was hurt, and that is why he struggled.
Bull.
He’s not good at the job.
This placed is messed up now. The player personnel instincts of the decision-makers is shaky.
And now they are going to continue the Smith experiment again, which seems to be the most important thing to John Idzik.
I think Rex could lose the locker room over this.
I’m telling you, if you polled the player on who should start, Vick would live in a landslide.
One bad game he’s out. Vick didn’t play very well, but the offensive line was awful. He should not have been replaced.
There is a lot of dysfunction here right now.
Idzik is a nice man who is over his head.
And honestly, he doesn’t look very happy.
And when you see him in the locker room, or on the field, around the players, he seems uncomfortable, out of place. He doesn’t seem comfortable in the skin of an NFL GM.
I think he’d be much happier going back to Seattle to his old job, and blending back into the wood work.
I hate to say it because they are people with families, but Jets need to blow this thing up at the end of the year.
