This savvy vet could complement the star . . .

Florham Park – One of the better plays at Tuesday’s Jets’ minicamp practice was quarterback Justin Fields hitting wide receiver Josh Reynolds on a deep crossing route for a long gain.

With all the double teams that Jets #1 WR Garrett Wilson will likely receive, this could lead to some favorable matchups for whoever the second and third options are, and Reynolds could be one of those guys.

“I’m here for whatever they need me for,” Reynolds said. “You know, if it’s the two, if it’s three, I mean, I’m here, I’m here to help the team win.”

And one way he’s helping other receivers now is with the team’s new offensive scheme, a system he played in while with Detroit in 2022-23 under coordinator Ben Johnson. Jets’ new OC Tanner Engstrand was Johnson’s passing game coordinator.

Reynolds, who had a career-high 52 catches for the 2020 Los Angeles Rams, feels he’s “a good vet presence to be able to help these guys kind of pick up on the offense.”

The 6-3 former Texas A&M standout, who has 20 career TD catches, will also be a “good vet presence” to help take advantage of all the bracket coverages Wilson faces.
