This guy is Godsend for Jets – needed a guy like this bad . . .

Linebacker Demario Davis returns to the Jets for a third time for another bite at the Big Apple, playing for the team from 2012-15, in 2017, and now, after eight years in New Orleans, he returns to perhaps wrap up his NFL career.

After 14 years in the league, Davis probably doesn’t run the 4.61 forty he ran coming out of Arkansas State, one of the reasons the Jets picked him in the third round of the 2012 draft.

But he’s got such good instincts; if he has lost a slight step, he makes up for it, seeing things before they happen.

He’s also one of the best leaders in the NFL, and the Jets are in dire need of a top-shelf defensive leader on the field, you know, the guy that gets everybody lined up properly before the snap, and also generally gives the pre-game speech on the field before the game.

The Jets’ pregame fire-and-brimstone speech makers before games the last few years lacked the gravitas of Davis.

Now, with that being said, for his speeches and leadership to be embraced, he must play well.

So, Davis becoming the leader of the defense (and team) will be predicated on how he plays.

The Jets think he can still play on a high level, which he certainly did last season, amassing a career-high 143 tackles for the Saints.
