Florham Park – Jets coach Aaron Glenn has still not announced his starting QB for his team’s game in Cincinnati on Sunday.
Will it be Justin Fields or Tyrod Taylor?
Some thought perhaps that decision was forced by the team’s owner on Tuesday, when Woody Johnson said about his 0-7 club, “If you look at any head coach with a quarterback like that, you’re going to see similar results if you go across the league.”
Johnson added: “If we could complete a pass, it would look good.”
Fields has started six of the team’s seven games this season.
So while Johnson said it’s Glenn’s decision who will start, some might surmise it’s unlikely the team would start a QB that the owner spoke about in that way.
Most of the football world, including the Bengals, is probably expecting Taylor.
But Glenn is going to make everybody wait, perhaps until Sunday, for the announcement of who his QB will be, using this tactic to make the Bengals prepare for two different signal-callers, with two different styles. That creates extra work for the opposing coaching staff.
Some thought Johnson painted Glenn in a corner with his comments on Tuesday, but maybe the coach doesn’t look at it that way.
Stay-tuned.
