This Jets opponent’s stat is pretty hard to fathom on NFL level . . .

The Indianapolis Colts have decided to re-insert quarterback Anthony Richardson into the starting lineup after a two-game benching. Richardson and the Colts will face the Jets on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.

One reason Richardson was benched is the following stat:

In his six starts this season, Richardson completed 44.4 of his passes.

When was the last time you saw a number that low from an NFL starter? That is shockingly low.

To put that in perspective, when Zach Wilson was the Jets QB, on and off, from 2021-23, in 33 starts he completed 57 percent of his passes.

That was considered low, but Richardson’s number actually makes Wilson’s completion percentage look okay, which it wasn’t.

But despite that completion percentage, Jimmy Irsay and the Colts have decided to go back to him as the starter.

However, if the Jets play defense like they did last week against Arizona, and continue to roll with defenders whose film would lead them to the bench of other teams, maybe Richardson improves that number this week.

But when is the last time you have seen a starting NFL QB with a 44.4 completion percentage? That is very unusual.

After Richardson was benched, NFL Network’s Kurt Warner said about the QB: “He’s not ready for this – it’s overwhelming to him.”

We will see if two weeks on the bench will fix his accuracy and processing problems. That doesn’t seem like long enough to fix that stuff, but we shall see.
