This is how Aaron Glenn made his bones, so this must improve . . .

In the Jets’ first game, they gave up four passing touchdowns to Pittsburgh quarterback Aaron Rodgers in a loss to the Steelers.

In their second game, they gave up 224 yards rushing to Buffalo in a loss to the Bills.

Some might argue this is far from ideal for a team that hired a head coach, Aaron Glenn, who made his bones in the NFL, not only as an excellent defensive player, but a very good defensive coach.

Before Brandon Staley was let go by the Chargers in 2023, one former league executive had an interesting take on the coach:

“What always troubles me as an executive is when you hire a guy whose expertise is in one area and the team is bad in that area,” said the former long-time NFL executive  “The Chargers were one of the worst teams in the NFL on defense last year, and the head coach is a defensive coordinator, you’ve got to be concerned.”

Not comparing Glenn to Staley. Not at all. It’s very early in Glenn’s tenure as Jets coach, and he’s in the embryonic stages of fixing things in Florham Park.

But even though it’s way too early to judge the Jets coach harshly, some might argue that even right out of the gate in his first year as the team’s coach, things should be a little better on the defensive side of the ball, which is considered his expertise, and considering his work as DC in Detroit helped him land his current gig.
