OTAs are a big classroom on grass for NFL teams.
So, criticizing players for how they look this time of year is unfair; it would be like ripping a Broadway actor for his performance early in dress rehearsals.
New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who is installing a new offense with the Patriots right now, had the perfect quote early this week about his perspective on OTA practices.
“I feel like at this time of year, it’s either a good play or we’re going to learn from it,” McDaniels said. “There is a positive result in either direction, and that is kind of mindset we are taking.”
