Jets defensive coordinator Brian Duker, a former Detroit defensive assistant, knows all too well how challenging it is to stop a Lions offense loaded with weapons.
“It’s one of those things: you got a hole in the boat, and you plug it, and it opens up another hole, right? Duker said. “There’s a lot of guys you have to cover, so every time you put resources somewhere else, it opens up an opportunity in a different place. So, there’s a lot of challenges to that.”
Lions QB Jared Goff has myriad options every time he fades back to pass, like tight end Sam LaPorta, running back Jahmyr Gibbs (huge dual threat), speedy WR Jameson Williams, and one of the NFL’s most underrated players, WR Amon-Ra St. Brown.
Duker couldn’t come up with enough superlatives to describe St. Brown.
“I think one of the things that stands out the most in my time with him, he was one of the hardest-working receivers I’ve been around,” Duker said. “His work shows up on the field. You can see the hours that he puts in.
“He has very good quickness in and out of routes, very good body control; he has some of the best hands that I’ve seen. He’s a very good receiver.”
And this is a very good Lions offense, and the Jets will need to bring their A-Game to contain them in Ford Field on Sunday.
