This bulked up Jets defender flashed on Wednesday . . .

Florham Park – On a couple of occasions at Wednesday’s Jets OTA practice, third-year defensive end Will McDonald burst into the backfield to disrupt an offensive play.

Even though he’s added some weight this off-season, that hasn’t taken away from any of McDonald’s impressive first-step quickness or quick twitch athleticism.

“Dynamic athlete,” said Jets coach Aaron Glenn about McDonald. “He’s a guy that has a skill set as far as rushing the passer that I haven’t been around a lot of guys,
just in my coaching tenure, like what we have with him. So, I’m going to enjoy seeing exactly what he’s going to be able to do with us, and we’re going to let him go. We’re going to let him loose.”

We all know that McDonald can get to the passer, finishing last season with 10.5 sacks. He could have had even more if not for some holding penalties by opposing offensive tackles.

One thing McDonald needs to improve at is becoming more stout against the run, and Glenn thinks the weight and muscle the defensive end added this off-season will help him in that regard.

“He’s gained about 15 pounds, which is very good for him because it allows him to be able to set the edge a lot better,” Glenn said.
