This Jets linebacker made a statement today . . .

Florham Park – The Jets’ linebacking corps needs to make more plays on the ball in pass coverage than they did collectively last season.

This includes starters and backups.

Jets reserve linebacker/core special teams player Marcelino McCrary-Ball performance in Thursday’s practice is illustrative of what the Jets need more of from their linebackers.

First, he had a terrific PD in the end zone, knocking away a pass to the running back Isaiah Davis.

Later in practice, he had a Pick Six on a tipped pass.

And for the icing on the cake, he also had an effective blitz where he disrupted the QB who nearly threw a pick to cornerback Quan’tez Stiggers.

McCrary Ball, a former Indiana Hoosier, who hails from Roswell, Georgia, is not only making a strong statement to make the team, but to grab the third linebacker spot next to Quincy Williams and Jamien Sherwood.

Especially if he continues to make plays in the passing game, something that there wasn’t enough of from the Jets’ linebackers last year.
