On February 6th, Jets coach Aaron Glenn met with QB Aaron Rodgers for less than 15 minutes to tell him the team was moving on.
Rodgers wasn’t thrilled with how this meeting was handled.
“That was kind of strange,” Rodgers told ESPN in April. “I think we are going to have this long conversation. I’ve flown across the country, and 20 seconds in he goes and he leans to the edge of his seat and says, ‘So, you want to play football?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m interested.’ And he was like, ‘We’re going in a different direction at quarterback.’
“I was kind of shocked. Not shocked because I didn’t think it was a possibility, but shocked because I just flew across the country and you could’ve told me this over the phone.”
In a story published today on ESPN’s website, a player decided to harken back to the MO of the previous regime and provide an unnamed quote on how the Glenn-Rodgers meeting was handled.
“I respected it,” one player told ESPN. “It was like cutting off the head of the snake right away and setting the tone, saying, ‘Hey, I’m going to do it my way.'”
Why is this unnamed player poking the bear – Rodgers – saying a meeting that the QB felt dissed at, was handled well?
Why even go there a few days before the Jets face the Pittsburgh Steelers in the opener? Leave it alone at this point.
And if this unnamed player thinks the meeting was handled that well, then why not put your name on the quote? What are you hiding from?
So a player is going down the unnamed quote road under the new regime?
Thought that stuff was in the review mirror (unless this player is no longer on the team).
