Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard is a terrific blocker.
And as Aaron Glenn likes to say to his receivers: “No block, no rock.”
In the middle of the Jets’ first offensive possession in Green Bay, a 7-play, 79-yard touchdown drive, there was a 14-yard run up the middle by tailback Braelon Allen.
There were several nice blocks on this play, like Jets left guard Joe Tippmann on Packers defensive tackle Colby Wooden.
One of the better blocks was by Lazard, who was in motion from right to left before the snap, and after the snap, he stopped his motion, and sealed defensive end Kingley Enagbare, and Allen ran into the gaping hole between Tippmann and Lazard.
Lazard is one of the best blocking receivers in the NFL, so considering the Jets are looking to be a run-first offense, he certainly could be an asset for them this year.
But the player hurt his shoulder in Green Bay, and the severity of the injury is unclear. We should find out more tomorrow, unless somebody leaks the nature of the injury to an insider before Glenn addresses the media.
However, when healthy, Lazard is a guy who can not only help the Jets as a big physical receiver (6-5, 227) who is terrific on 50-50 balls, but also in the run game.
