In linebacker Francisco “Kiko” Mauigoa, the Jets are getting a player who plays football the way it’s meant to be played – violently and physically.
He’s old school.
“He has the physicality of a throwback banger,” wrote Lance Zierlein for NFL.com.
Mauigoa describes himself as a “sideline-to-sideline type of dude (who) creates turnovers.”
He is a good run stuffer and blitzer who arrives at the ball carrier with an attitude.
“[I like to] come downhill, make tackles in the backfield, and try to create chaos in the backfield,” Mauigoa said.
Former teammate Miami defensive end Tyler Baron, who the Jets also picked in this draft, can’t overemphasize how much “Kiko” loves football and gives his heart and soul to the sport.
“For me, Kiko, just watching him every day, he’s somebody where you can just tell he loves football, just how overly invested (he is) and how much you’re getting out of him – I think you get everything out of Kiko,” Baron said.
And however the Jets use him, even if it’s just on special teams, “Kiko” can’t wait to get rolling.
“I love the game of football. I just want to help out the team as much as possible, so being on the field as a special teamer or a defensive player, glory to God because I get to live out my dream, and it’s just another opportunity to play football,” Mauigoa said.
