Florham Park – With the injury to Jets rookie linebacker Kiko Mauigoa, look for veteran Mykal Walker to handle the Jets’ third linebacker spot, next to Jamien Sherwood and Quincy Williams.
Going from Mauigoa to Walker isn’t a downgrade.
Walker, who entered the league as a 4th-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2020 out of Fresno State via Azusa Pacific, has 28 career NFL starts with the Falcons, Steelers, and Commanders before signing with the Jets in September.
He actually has four career interceptions, and nearly picked off Miami QB Tua Tagovailoa last week.
So perhaps Walker could help boost the Jets’ pass coverage at linebacker, especially their linebacker coverage of tight ends, which has not been great this year.
In the first quarter of the Jets’ loss to Miami last week, journeyman tight end Greg Dulcich looked like Antonio Gates.
So Walkers’ veteran experience could be a boon to the Jets’ linebacker corps this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
