Tyler Baron looks right out of Central Casting to be an NFL defensive end at 6-5, 258 with 4.62 speed.
While the Jets’ 2025 fifth-round pick of Miami has impressive raw tools, the one thing you hear a lot about this player is that he needs to be “more consistent.”
“It’s just nudging him a little bit more to get him over that hump to be a really good player for us,” Jets coach Aaron Glenn said.
So this is a talented ball of clay that Glenn and Jets defensive line coach Eric Washington hope to mold into a fifth-round steal.
If he gets a little stronger, improves his technique, and adds some pass rush moves to his arsenal, he could play in the league for a long time.
Baron knows he has a lot to work on and is embracing the challenge.
“For me, it’s just developing that consistency with my details in in terms of hand placement, eye discipline, just kind of building up what leads to the actual contact,” Baron said.
NFL Network draft analyst Lance Zierlein wrote about Baron: “[His]ceiling could be tied to his ability to become a more consistently disruptive force.”
So the buzzword for this player is “consistency.” If Glenn and Washington can get this nicely-built, athletically-gifted player to become more consistent, the Jets could have something here.
